King Creek Ridge

King Creek Ridge has an excellent effort-to-reward ratio, as can be seen from the photos. How lucky are Calgarians to see these views in the morning and still be home in time for lunch? The hike is very similar to Prairie Mountain in terms of length and elevation gain, but the views are out of the world for the amount of time you spend climbing. We ascended and descended via two different well-worn trails. Going up, the dirt trail we followed was extremely eroded, steep, and very slippery. Going down, a brief bushwack led to another well-defined trail, which was much less eroded and slippery but also tricky due to the scree. (There was just enough to be a nuisance but not enough to slide down.) We also had to navigate a few rock bands, which were trivial enough to be fun rather than stressful. I would probably chose the same paths up and down if I had to repeat this hike.
