Moose Mountain

A casual hike right outside of Calgary. I’ve been wanting to hike Moose Mountain for a while now. It was a bluebird day and even though the annual Moose Mountain Trail Race was going on, we didn’t pass by many people – always a plus!

Date: 2017-08-26

Location: Kananaskis

Distance: 15 km

Elevation gain: 515 m

Time: 5 hours, including a one-hour lunch break

Friends: Jonathan, Michelle, Nic, Emily, Connor

The hike started off with a long walk on a fire road through the forest. Afterwards, we reached a meadow which may or may not have been where Brokeback Mountain was filmed.

Calgary off in the hazy distance.

Looking toward a summit (not the summit) en route.

Heading toward the true summit.

Looking back at the way we came. I really like the barren stony landscape.

Atop the true summit with oceans of mountains in the background.

We had lunch on the helicopter pad. The lady at the lookout was very nice and said hi to us.

Heading back down the summit.
